RCMP investigating homicide in Port Alberni after body found in apartment building

Port Alberni RCMP are investigating a homicide after a body was found inside an apartment suite located in the 3200-block of Third Avenue.

Port Alberni RCMP are investigating the death of a person found inside a residential apartment.

According to a Port Alberni RCMP press release, officers were called to n apartment suite located in the 3200-block of Third Avenue on May 4, where they found a dead body.

Based on the condition of the body, RCMP investigators believe the body had been there for a while and that the person was a victim of a homicide.

“Investigators are on scene making attempts at identifying the deceased. Currently, positive identification has not yet been established,” says Port Alberni RCMP Detachment commander Insp. Eric Rochette of the Port Alberni RCMP.

The Port Alberni General Investigation Section and Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) are currently working alongside BC Coroners Service.

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a concurrent fact-finding investigation into this unexpected death.

RCMP say they will not be commenting further on the matter and that the BC Coroners Service will not be providing public comment at this time.
