The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating the discovery of a body in downtown Nanaimo on Thursday, June 3, believed to be a woman who was recently reported missing.

Police say that the body was found in the vicinity of Albert St and Victoria Crescent, located in a small wooded ravine.

According to a police release, preliminary observations have investigators believing that the decease is 27-year-old Amy Watts.

Watts was reported missing by her family to RCMP on Thursday, May 27 and police notified the public about the case earlier this week.

Watts was reported missing by her mother, who lives in P.E.I, after she hadn’t made contact with her family since this February. Her family told police this prolonged period of contact was out of character for Watts.

The family of the deceased has since been notified after police located the body on Thursday.

The BC Coroners Service has been advised and a forensic autopsy will be scheduled in the near future and the investigation is continuing.
