A man has been taken to hospital following what police describe as a “targeted shooting” in Port Alberni on Friday.

The Port Alberni RCMP say they received a report of a man being shot in an alley in the 3000-block of 4th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they located the male victim who was then taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

While the investigation is in its early stages, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé says “initial information gathered is leading investigators to believe this was a targeted attack.”

Police say no arrests have been made yet, and investigators are looking for an older model black Dodge pickup truck that was seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident, or who may have video surveillance or dashcam video of the area, is asked to call the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.

Mounties add that police dog services, the Port Alberni RCMP general investigation section, and the RCMP forensic identification section are assisting frontline officers with the investigation.
