West Shore RCMP are investigating a suspicious early-morning fire that damaged an abandoned house on Sooke Road near Veterans Memorial Parkway in Colwood.

On Friday, July 28 around 2:45 a.m., Mounties were called to the house fire at 2356 Sooke Rd. Colwood fire crews were already on scene when officers arrived at the fire, which is deemed suspicious, according to RCMP.

“Police canvassed the neighbourhood, and it was determined the home was abandoned,” reads a news release Monday.

RCMP say there were no reports of injuries.

They say no suspects have been identified, and officers are looking to speak with a person dressed in all black clothing seen walking in the area around the time of the fire.

“Investigators would like to speak to this person as they may have information that could help this investigation,” they said. “If this was you, or you know who this was, please call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 to speak to investigators.”

Anyone who lives in or was driving in the area is asked to check their home surveillance or vehicle dash cam footage taken between 1-3:30 a.m. on July 28 and report any suspicious activity to RCMP.
