Nanaimo RCMP are looking for those responsible for a break-in and theft at the Kirby’s Source for Sports on Wednesday.

Officers arrived at the Bowen Road store after the alarm went off just before 5 a.m.

They found the front door smashed in and a crowbar lying nearby.

Thieves grabbed several items of baseball equipment including  a number of unique wooden baseball bats.

In all, nine wooden bats were missing including six Canadian-made B45’s.

The name B45 comes from the “bouleau jaune” or yellow birch, the official provincial tree of Quebec.

The vast majority of the yellow birch grown in North America is grown in Quebec above the 45th parallel.

“There are only 20 B45 wooden bats in all of British Columbia,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP.

“More expensive bats and items were not taken so its likely the thieves grabbed what they could and left.”

Also missing were eight bright red and four black Under Armour football receiver gloves.

If you have information on this crime, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or 1-800-222-8477.
