Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for eastern Vancouver Island, saying between 50 to 80 millimetres of rain is expected to fall on the region Friday.

The warning, issued Friday morning, is in effect from Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay.

Special weather statements have also been issued for inland and western Vancouver Island.

A “robust frontal system” will see rain intensify through the day with southeasterly winds gusting to 80 kilometres an hour this afternoon and early evening.

The rain and wind should ease tonight, Environment Canada said.

The heavy rainfall also brings the chance of flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Drivers are advised to turn ont heir lights and follow at a safe distance if their visibility is reduced.
