A rapid response from the fire departments of three jurisdictions resulted in a quick extinguishing of an early morning house fire in Colwood.

Crews from Colwood Fire Department, View Royal Fire Department and Langford Fire Rescue were deployed to a residence on Aldeane Avenue near Colwood Lake at approximately 4 a.m. on Thursday morning.

A fire had sparked just inside the home on the main floor.

Firefighters acted quickly and were able to contain and extinguish the fire before the blaze became too serious.

The flames caused minor damage within the home, according to Colwood Fire Rescue Captain Bryan Erwin, leaving behind some scorch marks and some small structural damage to an external wall.

There were no injuries to the residents on the premises and the family was able to exit the home swiftly and safely due to working smoke alarms, noted Erwin.

Erwin adds that he believes the family will be displaced from the home for a day or two at most before being able to return.
