A Qualicum Beach hardware store has temporarily closed its doors to perform a “deep clean” after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Dolly’s Home Hardware store says that it was informed by its staff member that they had tested positive for COVID-19 test on Tuesday.

According to a social media post made by the hardware store, the last time the employee was in the store was on Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14.

The store, located at 169 W 2nd Ave in Qualicum Beach, says the employee is now at home self-isolating. The store also suggests all employees that were in direct contact with the positive staff member are following Island Health guidelines.

As a result of the positive test, Dolly’s Home Hardware has opted to close down the store temporarily in order to clean the premises.

“Please be advised Dolly’s Home Hardware will be closed for a very deep clean tomorrow, 18 November 2020…Sorry for the inconvenience and understanding,” reads a Facebook post from the store.

The store adds that, although staff have been following safety guidelines, it intends to implement and enforce precautionary measures for customers.

“Absolutely no one will be allowed into our store when we reopen without sanitizing hands in front of staff and wearing a mask/face shield. The safety of our staff and customers is more important than a few minutes of discomfort. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Island Health has seen a spike in COVID-19 in recent weeks as active cases within the authority has risen to 114.
British Columbia health officials announced a record-breaking day on Tuesday as well, with 717 positive cases reported in a 24-hour span.
