Crews continue to work at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Saanich early Tuesday morning that saw a hydro pole struck.

Police say the crash happened at 3:15 a.m. in the 4100-block of Quadra Street as a vehicle hit a hydro pole.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Saanich resident Steve Beggs was woken up moments before the collision happened.

“All of a sudden I heard a screeching of the tires and then a big crash. So I knew somebody had hit a pole. And then my alarm clock went dead and I knew the power was out,” Beggs said.

A vehicle is towed away after striking a hydro pole early Tuesday morning in Saanich. Quadra Street between Tuxedo Drive and Ambassador Avenue has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Power was knocked out to more than 2,800 BC Hydro customers Tuesday morning from the crash.

The outage ended around 9 a.m.

Quadra Street was closed in both directions between Tuxedo Drive and Ambassador Avenue as hydro crews worked, but it has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.
