Police are investigating what they’ve deemed a homicide after a 39-year-old woman was found dead in her Quadra Island home during a wellness check.

Officers from Quadra Island RCMP were called to the woman’s home to check on her Jan. 16. When they arrived, they found her body inside the home and called in forensic investigators.

Evidence suggested the woman was the victim of a homicide, police said in a news release Wednesday. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has since taken over the case.

“Investigators believe this incident was targeted,” VIIMCU spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé said in a statement. “The incident was isolated and investigators do not believe there [is] any further risk to the public. The investigation is ongoing.”

Anyone who may have information on the Quadra Island woman’s homicide is asked to call the VIIMCU tip line at 250-380-6211.
