Purse snatching suspect in Nanaimo on the loose

Nanaimo RCMP is asking for help to identify a man they believe stole a purse and made two fraudulent credit card transactions last week.

Police say it the incident took place March 5 when a female reported an unknown man grabbed her purse and took off around 11 a.m. while she was walking through the Costco parking lot.

Responding officers could not locate the suspect and before the credit cards were used to buy items from two different locations before they could be cancelled.

The cards were used at Quality Foods and North Ridge General Store, both on Turner Road.

RCMP says the suspect was seen in video footage provided by Quality Foods and matched the description of the man who allegedly stole the purse.

The suspect is described by police as being Caucasian, about 6’0″ tall with a thin build and is scruffy looking with a salt and pepper beard.

The Mounties say he was wearing a dark coloured windbreaker and blue jeans.

Anyone that can provide information on the crime, or can identify the suspect, is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, or Crime Stoppers.
