Cowichan Search and Rescue say crews are searching Quamichan Lake after a rower went missing during a single scull on a team outing.

An RCMP dive team has been called in to help search after the rower went missing around 11:30 a.m. The team is set to arrive around 6 p.m.

North Cowichan Fire, RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and Rowing Canada are searching for the rower.

The scull has been recovered, but there is no sign yet of the rower.

The public is asked to stay away from the area while emergency crews are in the area.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they become available.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said there was a missing boater due to information released by the Municipality of North Cowichan. Cowichan Search and Rescue later clarified the person is a rower. The story has been updated to reflect this.
