Provisional COVID update reports 2,137 new cases for B.C.; 264 for Island Health

Health officials in B.C. have released provisional COVID numbers, reporting 2,137 new cases for B.C. and 264 for Island Health.

In a statement, the province says the numbers are provisional due to a data reset, and the numbers will be verified once they are confirmed.

Since the last update, there have been nine more deaths due to COVID in the province. Five were in Fraser Health, three in Vancouver Coastal Health, and one in Northern Health.

There are 30,515 active cases in the province, and 1,654 in Island Health.

There are 990 COVID-positive individuals in hospitals in the province and 141 are in intensive care.

There are three new healthcare outbreaks in Island Health at Amica on the Gorge, The Gardens at Qualicum Beach and Cowichan District Hospital.

In other health authorities, Fraser Health has 740 new cases, Vancouver Coastal Health has 394, Interior Health has 569, Northern Health has 170, and there are no new cases in people who normally reside outside Canada.

The province says the update on case counts by vaccination status is unavailable today.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 10,640,763 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
