The BC Government is set to unveil plans Friday morning to provide an opportunity for students to get back in the classroom before the summer break.

BC Premier John Horgan, alongside Minister of Education Rob Fleming, Minister of State for Child Care Katrina Chen and Dr. Bonnie Henry, will provide an update about the province’s plans to ensure more students have access to in-class instruction before the end of this school year.

The update is scheduled for 10 am PT on Friday, May 15. A live stream is available on CHEK’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The return is said to be optional for K to 12 students throughout the province and health officials must sign off on any school district’s plan for a return.

Also, Dr. Henry won’t be doing her usual afternoon briefing with Health Minister Adrian Dix. Instead, the province will release updated case numbers in a statement. That press release is expected to be issued at 3 pm PT on Friday afternoon.

Yesterday, the provincial health officer reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 in BC, along with three more deaths.

This story will be updated following the 10 am announcement.
