Province commits more than $1 million to update equipment for Vancouver Island trades and tech students

The province is providing post-secondary schools $5.4 million for new equipment for trades and tech students, with three Vancouver Island institutions among the recipients.

Camosun College is getting $500,000 while North Island College and Vancouver Island University will each receive $310,455.

Premier John Horgan made the announcement Tuesday while visiting Northwest Community College in Terrace.

Funding will help purchase equipment ranging from industry standard computer lab sets, 3D printers, cooking equipment and hot water boilers and furnaces for plumbing and gas-fitting programs.

the province says the 15 public post-secondary institutions will be able to purchase the latest technology to respond to industry changes and curriculum requirements.

The government plans to expand tech spaces in the province by funding an additional 2,900 spots by 2023.
