Victoria council approves motion to name dog park in Topaz Park after VicPD dog Chase
Victoria City Council approved a motion on Thursday to dedicate a new dog park in Topaz Park to the only VicPD dog killed in the line of duty.
The motion introduced by Coun. Charlayne Thornton-Joe proposed that “Topaz Park be named the PSD Chase Dog Park and that funds be used to attach a plaque with information regarding PSD Chase.”
PSD Chase died after going into cardiac arrest in September of 1994.
It happened just a day after the 4-year-old German Shepherd was severely injured while chasing a suspect in a domestic dispute.
There was huge outpouring of sympathy from the community at the time.
Coun. Thornton-Joe says the plan still has to be approved by the neighbourhood association, which next meets in September.
She says she would consider another park if it is turned down.
