Princess Cruises is immediately suspending operations for 60 days amid concerns of the rapid spread of COVID-19.

The move comes following an announcement from the World Health Organization that the disease is now being labelled a pandemic. It also follows two major quarantines of Princess Cruise ships after passengers tested positive.

The company has chosen to “voluntarily pause” its global operations of all 18 ships for the next two months, impacting sailings from March 12 and May 10. According to Princess Cruises, all 18 of their ships will be pulled and deep cleaned under the guidance of health experts.

“Those currently onboard a cruise that will end in the next five days will continue to sail as expected through the end of the itinerary so that onward travel arrangements are not disrupted. Current voyages that are underway and extend beyond March 17 will be ended at the most convenient location for guests, factoring in operational requirements,” said Swartz.
