Potential security situation forces Nanaimo Hospital to restrict access for several hours

A potential security situation forced Nanaimo Regional General hospital to initiate a restricted access protocol for several hours on Friday.

Island Health wouldn’t elaborate on the exact nature of the possible threat, but say it was a potential external security concern.

After nothing developed over a three hour period, the restricted access protocol was lifted at 7 p.m..

Island Health says there was no disruption to patient care or site operations.
