Potential all-Island WLA playoff series looms

WATCH: It’s not set in stone yet, but there’s a good chance the “Island Derby” could be returning for the Western Lacrosse Association playoffs.

The Victoria Shamrocks, who take on the Coquitlam Adanacs tonight at the Q Centre, have locked up second place in the league with two games remaining in the season. Meanwhile, the Nanaimo Timbermen have qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 11 years, and currently sit in third place in the standings, and if it stays that way, the two island teams will meet in the first round of the postseason. The Timbermen must win or tie against the Burnaby Lakers in their final game of the season to maintain third place, or else they drop the tiebreaker with the Maple Ridge Burrards and will play the first place New Westminster Salmonbellies in the first round.
