Saanich police were unable to find a cougar Wednesday afternoon after an unconfirmed sighting near the Pat Bay Highway.
Police received a report of the large cat in the 5400 block of the highway, close to Elk Lake, at 3:59 p.m. Police said the animal was seen in a field on the west side of the highway.
Officers were unable to find the animal despite an extensive search.
Anyone who sees a cougar that is hanging around in a residential neighbourhood, is becoming aggressive or threatening toward people or is killing pets is asked to report it to the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
