Police have taken away a sawed-off shotgun from a man the District of Highlands.

According to West Shore RCMP, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Millstream Road in the District of Highlands on June 4 after receiving a tip about some guns that were being stored incorrectly and that the man living there did not have a proper firearms license.

On June 4, the West Shore RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Millstream Road in the Highlands after receiving information that firearms were being improperly stored at the residence and the man living there did not have a valid firearms license.

Frontline officers, along with members of the West Shore RCMP’s organized crime unit entered the home and recovered a replica .45 calibre handgun, a sawed-off shotgun and boxes of ammo from the Highlands home.

Safety was the main concern in this investigation as investigators found the firearm was not stored properly and there was information that children were coming and going from this residence. Police are still investigating this crime and firearm charges are expected to follow, Const. Kris Valentine of the West Shore RCMP, said in a media release.

It’s unclear whether the man had a valid firearms license or not.
