Victoria police investigating possible hate crime after passenger attacked on BC Transit bus

Victoria Police Department are searching for a Caucasian man who attacked a young Black man on a bus in Victoria on June 19.

Police in Victoria say a young Black man was randomly attacked by a white man while onboard a BC Transit bus last Sunday, June 19.

According to the Victoria Police Department media release, the victim entered the bus and was moving towards a seat when “without warning” a Caucasian man stood up and struck him.

Nearby passengers intervened and the pushed the suspect is pushed off. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and did not require medical attention.

Officers were flagged down by the victim in the 1100-block of Johnson Street shortly after 4 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Victoria police said the incident is being investigated as a potential hate crime and are still searching for the suspect and need help identifying him.

The suspect is described as a 40 to 50-year-old Caucasian man with a medium to heavy build and blonde hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a black hat with a logo on it, a blue shirt with a logo on it, tan shorts, white socks and black sneakers at the time of the incident.
