Police are hoping to identify a teen who allegedly robbed a Chemainus grocery store in July 2022.

Ladysmith RCMP is seeking help from the public to identify a teen who allegedly assaulted a Chemainus food market employee before robbing the store earlier this summer.

On July 25 at around 8 p.m., Mounties were called to the store in the 10000-block of Chemainus Road after receiving a 911 call requesting police assistance.

According to RCMP in a news release, officers arrived on scene and spoke with a store employee who said they had been robbed by a male who wanted to buy cigarettes but provided an ID indicating he was a minor.

“Upon being refused service, an altercation ensued where the suspect walked behind the counter and assaulted the clerk,” police said in the release.

RCMP say they’ve been unable to locate the suspect and are now turning to the public for help identifying him. He’s described as being in his late teens and, at the time of the incident, wore a black hoodie, dark pants and multi-coloured sunglasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
