A bear was injured with a crossbow arrow on Sept. 22, 2019.

West Shore RCMP say the hunter that injured a bear with a crossbow arrow had a licence and was on a legal hunt.

On Sept. 22 at 4:50 pm. West Shore RCMP and BC Conservation Service were called to the 600 block of Lost Lake Road in the Highlands area after a resident reported being charged at by a bear.

Conservation officer Sgt. Scott Norris said the bear was hit with an arrow from a crossbow between Lost Lake Road and Taylor Way. The bear ran off before the hunter could get to it and then ran by the resident who contacted police.

The bear was not found on Sunday and Monday. The search was put on hold indefinitely on Tuesday. According to the BC Conservation Officer Service, it is unlikely that the bear survived.

The hunter was interviewed by both police and the BC Conservation Officer Service.
