Central Saanich police are looking for witnesses to a collision that may have involved the same driver that struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night.

Police say they have received new information describing a black sedan being rear-ended by a red Jeep on Mount Newton Cross Road at Lochside Drive around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 27.

That is about 20 minutes before the fatal collision in the 7600-block of Central Saanich Road that saw two women hit by a vehicle.

The crash killed a 51-year-old woman, while her 48-year-old sister was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Central Saanich police said they would like to speak to the driver and occupants of the black sedan or anyone else with information about the collision of the two vehicles on Mount Newton Cross Road at Lochside Drive. Anyone with information can call Detective Chad Vincent at 250-652-4441-ext.3063 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the 26-year-old driver of the SUV involved in the fatal collision to cross over the oncoming traffic lane before striking the women.

Police say they are investigating speed, impairment, medical issues and the vehicle itself.
