A truck off the road on the Malahat near Aspen Road on Sept. 16,2019.

West Shore RCMP say the commercial truck driver who crashed through a concrete median on the Malahat Monday afternoon has been charged with having no insurance and driving without due care and attention.

On Sept. 16 at around 2:35 p.m., a 27-year-old male driver went off the road, striking a power pole and a concrete barrier, on the Trans-Canada Highway near Aspen Road. The Malahat Fire Department said the commercial truck driver was going south when he crossed into the northbound lanes.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement officers investigated the collision. Hydro crews repaired the pole and lines on Monday.

The commercial semi-truck was towed away Tuesday morning.
