Sooke RCMP says the driver of a Toyota Echo veered across the centre line before striking a hydro pole Monday night, closing a section of Highway 14 for several hours.
The driver and lone occupant was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and police say alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the accident.
RCMP are still investigating what caused the crash.
The incident happened just before 6 p.m. and police say the vehicle was heading westbound.
The hydro pole was damaged near John Muir School and as a result, the highway was closed in both directions between Erinan Boulevard and Croce Road, and reopened around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The crash knocked out power to John Muir Elementary and as a precaution, School District 62 decided to close the school Tuesday.
Students were transported to Sooke Elementary.
Attn: John Muir Elementary families: School is closed tomorrow due to a power outage. Staff will be deployed to Sooke Elementary where students are also welcome. Buses will pick up as usual and continue on to Sooke Elem. Not your normal Tuesday, but it will be fun! #sd62 pls RT pic.twitter.com/XtoClHNuhE
