Man taken into custody after barricade on Johnson Street

Victoria police say a man who barricaded himself inside a building on Johnson Street was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and is being transported to hospital.

The 800-block of Johnson Street closed to traffic due to the incident at around 1:30 p.m. Windows were reportedly smashed at one of the buildings.

VicPD and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team were at the scene. Police announced the man was safely apprehended just before 2:30 p.m.

Police said the portion of Johnson Street will remain closed until the glass is cleaned up.
