BC RCMP Traffic Services Parksville pulled over two motorcycles, one of which was being towed with a rope, along Highway 4 in Coombs on May 5.

It’s not everyday police encounter a motorcycle towing another motorcycle with a rope along a highway.

But police say that is exactly what happened in Coombs earlier this month.

According to a police press release, an officer with the BC RCMP Traffic Services Parksville was driving along Highway 4 in Coombs on May 5 and noticed two motorcycles travelling together.

Motorcycles travelling together aren’t unusual, but what made this event “unusual” say BC RCMP, is that the lead motorcycle was towing the second motorcycle with a rope.

The officer stopped the two motorcycles after they “unsuccessfully attempted to duck off the highway” behind a nearby building.

The release describes the lead motorcycle as “the gas” and the second motorcycle as “the brake.”

BC RCMP said the two individuals were not in possession of a valid drivers licence, that the bikes did not belong to them and that neither bike was insured.

Both were issued tickets for driving without a license and insurance.

One driver also “exhibited signs of impairment” and was given a 24-hour driving prohibition, according to BC RCMP.

Both drivers were released at the scene, while the motorcycles were towed to a secure location, the release notes.
