A man was arrested after a staff member was assaulted for trying to break up an argument at a downtown Victoria Pizza Hut, according to police, who are now searching for witnesses.

Officers were called to the Pizza Hut location at 911 Yates St. just after 10 p.m. for a report of a man violently attacking a woman.

Responding officers and paramedics found the woman lying on a sidewalk suffering non-life-threatening injuries, while the man had apparently taken off, police said.

Investigators were told the woman had asked two men arguing outside the restaurant to leave when one of them attacked her, punching her repeatedly before throwing her to the ground.

Police said they found and arrested the suspect in the 1000-block of View Street at around 8 a.m. the next morning. He remained in a Victoria police cell Wednesday.

They’re now asking anyone with surveillance cameras or who may have otherwise caught the assault on camera to contact them at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
