A person was killed over the weekend after their vehicle went into the Saanich Inlet, say police.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, RCMP received reports about a vehicle that went into the water at the intersection of Mills Road and West Saanich Road in North Saanich.

RCMP say when members of the Sidney/North RCMP detachment attended the scene, they located a single vehicle in the waters of Patricia Bay, near Victoria International Airport.

Multiple first responders including British Columbia Emergency Health Service and North Saanich Fire Department personnel also attended the scene.

Sgt. Chris Manseau, media relations officer with the BC RCMP, told CHEK News one person was removed from the vehicle and later pronounced dead.

Manseau said a brief search of the area was also conducted to check other possible occupants or victims. He said it was eventually determined that the individual who died was the vehicle’s only occupant.

An investigation is ongoing, however, Manseau said the crash doesn’t appear to be suspicious in nature.
