A pedestrian who was injured in a collision on East Saanich Road has died, police said Wednesday.

The collision happened at around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, on East Saanich Road. Sidney/North Saanich RCMP said based on preliminary investigating, it was determined the pedestrian was walking in an uncontrolled crosswalk on East Saanich Road near Barrett Drive when he was struck by a driver in a silver Volvo station wagon going south.

The pedestrian, a 68-year-old North Saanich man, was taken to hospital. Police said he has since succumbed to his injuries. The man’s name has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing and police have not made a determination about any criminality at this time. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors.
