A passing motorist is being credited with reviving a man who’d stopped breathing following a single vehicle crash in Esquimalt Friday night.

Witnesses report seeing a man driving erratically on Craigflower Road near Tillicum Road around 8:15 p.m.

“I was walking my dog and I noticed a silver car started swerving towards me, ” said one witness.

“It screeched along the cement, hit the median, smashed over it and then crashed into a pole.”

Passing motorists including Lloyd Campbell and his wife stopped to help and found the man unconscious and no longer breathing.

Several people helped pull him out of the car and that’s when Campbell administered CPR.

“He had no pulse, so we pulled him out and gave him CPR,” said Campbell

“And then we got him back breathing.”

Paramedics arrived soon after and took over care of the injured motorist

He was then taken to hospital.

Craigflower Road was closed between Tillicum and Admirals for nearly an hour as emergency services responded to the incident.

Witnesses believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash but VicPD say the cause is under investigation.
