A section of the Pat Bay Highway from Swartz Bay to Keating Cross Road is now open after poor weather conditions forced its closure Sunday evening.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP say that the winter weather has resulted in at least 12 collisions today and that the major roadway was closed as a result. The road closed around 6:30 p.m. and reopened after 8 p.m.

Sidney Volunteer Fire also said that the part of the highway between Beacon Ave and McDonald Park Road is open. It was closed around 5:40 p.m. due to a four-car collision but some northbound traffic was getting through later.

During the highway closure, BC Ferries said some traffic for foot passengers is making its way through the terminal, but some may face delays as the roadways are impacted from snow.

Many officials across the CRD are asking any non-essential travel be avoided.
