WATCH: Set to play in the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League, Pacific FC was revealed to local supporters and members of local businesses at the E&N Roundhouse on Friday afternoon.

There is a new professional men’s soccer team on Vancouver Island: the Pacific FC.

The team, led by former national team player and Victoria’s Josh Simpson, made the announcement in Victoria on Friday. They also displayed their logo and branding to the public.

The logo is a combination of the Douglas Fir tree, the shape of Vancouver Island, and the surrounding ocean. The three colours that Pacific FC will put in their branding are starfish purple, lagoon blue and lighthouse white. Pacific FC will play in the redesigned Westhills Stadium, which will hold 6,500 spectators for the games.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for soccer in Canada and more importantly for soccer on Vancouver Island,” said Pacific FC President Josh Simpson.

“I left my home in Victoria almost 20 years ago because there were no opportunities for young soccer players in the region. I am thrilled to say that changes today. Pacific FC is creating a winning culture and a pathway for players leading to a national stage. Pacific FC will proudly represent the power, energy, strength and beauty of the Pacific Northwest as we look to inspire a new generation of football heroes.”

The team is now taking early membership deposits for when the season begins in the Spring of 2019.
