Victoria firefighters have managed to extinguish an overnight fire that sparked in the carport of an apartment building near Beacon Hill Park.

The blaze occurred at Parkside Towers — located at 890 Academy Close in Victoria — when a silver Mitsibushi went up in flames.

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. and found the front of the vehicle in flames and smoke billowing out of the car port.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, however, the car sustained significant damage.

Scorch marks could be seen in the carport as well as on the outside of the first floor of the apartment building.

At this time, fire crews are investigating as to what may have started the fire.

It has not been announced whether the car fire is considered suspicious or not.
