Island Health’s COVID-19 school exposure list continues to grow since the start of the fall semester as more than 20 schools have seen potential exposures to the virus.
According to the health authority, multiple school districts across Vancouver Island have experienced exposures since children have returned to the classroom including facilities in Victoria, Nanaimo, Sooke, Parksville and Campbell River.
Island Health notes that if a parent or guardian sees a notification on the health authority’s school exposure site, it does not necessarily mean their child has been exposed to COVID-19.
Island Health outlines that Public Health members work with the school and school district to ensure close contacts are notified directly and provided specific guidance.
If a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health, a child can continue to attend school, Island Health notes.
Last week, B.C. health officials announced that it would be altering mask mandate rules in schools to include children in Kindergarten to Grade 3.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, all students in B.C. schools will be required to wear a mask when inside a school building, including while at their desks and on buses.
This is a change to the current rules in effect, which require all grades 4 to 12 students to wear masks.
Below is a list are the schools that have been added to Island Health’s school exposure list:
