Order a Mealshare menu item and help feed a hungry child

If you had the chance to enjoy a meal out and help feed a hungry child at the same time, would you take it?

Because thanks to Mealshare, there are more than 20 restaurants across Greater Victoria with menu items that allow you to do just that!

Lori Elder is Mealshare’s Community Leader in Victoria.

“Mealshare is a social enterprise and a non-profit with a goal to end youth hunger.

“The restaurants provide our logo beside a menu item,” says Elder, “so that when a diner orders that menu item, a meal is provided to a youth in need.”

“It’s so easy. Buy one, get one.”

Restaurants donate one dollar to the non-profit every time a menu item flagged Mealshare is ordered.

That money is forwarded to Breakfast Club of Canada, a national organization dedicated to providing healthy meals to children across the country.

“Breakfast Club of Canada currently operates in four programs” explains Benjamin Neumer, from the organization, “feeding 150 kids in Victoria every single school morning.”

“Mealshare is providing funding, and they’re providing some volunteers.   It’s really a great relationship we have to really eliminate hunger in Canada.”

There are more than 20 restaurants participating in Victoria, including Floyd’s Diner.

“We were one of the first businesses to partner with Mealshare,” says Floyd’s manager Emily Schlagintweit.

“We came on board because Floyd’s has always had a very generous giving nature to the community.”

“It’s a great cause,” Schlagintweit adds, “and so many people are so eager to donate towards it.”

“The impact is incredible,” says Elder. “The restaurants are making such a big difference.”

“If you’re going to eat out, why not choose a Mealshare partner restaurant, and just choose a menu item that has our logo on it?”
