Habitat for Humanity is a charity that helps families achieve strength, stability and independence through affordable home-ownership.
The organization has now housed 34 families across Greater Victoria.
“It seems like a small number maybe,” says Kelly King of Habitat Victoria. “But what we’re providing is a life-changing difference for those families. For those children, they will have better health outcomes, better educational outcomes, and the families that we’re helping are staying in place – they are giving back to the community.”
Every family that is chosen to receive a home commits to partnering with Habitat for 500 hours of volunteer labour, which can be on the job site where their home is being built, or at The Restore, which funds all operational costs of the charity.
Now, you can help support Habitat for Humanity Victoria, through their spectacular fundraiser called Open a Door to a Brighter Future, which saw more than 100 artists paint special doors that will be available for purchase online through a special auction.
“It’s been amazing seeing the pieces come in,” says King, referring to the beautifully painted doors that have been arriving from local artists across the city.
The auction will run online from May 28 until June 13, with proceeds going directly to Habitat for Humanity Victoria.
