One person has been sent to the hospital following a single-vehicle rollover crash in Nanaimo, according to RCMP.

Police say that the incident took place at approximately 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021, near the intersection of Northfield Road and Bowen Road.

RCMP responded to the scene of the cars, along with firefighters and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

When police arrived on scene, they located an adult woman in a PT Cruiser that was lying on its side. Witnesses told police that they believed the woman was the only person in the vehicle when it struck a BC Hydro power pole and flipped onto its side.

Fire crews managed to extricate the woman from her vehicle and BCEHS paramedics were able to transport her to the Nanaimo hospital.

At this time, the extent of her injuries are unknown to police.

North and southbound traffic along Bowen Road has not been interrupted, according to RCMP.

Until such time the vehicle involved is towed from the scene, southbound traffic on Bowen Road cannot turn right or westbound onto Northfield Road to access the Nanaimo Parkway,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has dashcam video of the rollover crash, is being asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-42984.
