Sidney/North Saanich RCMP says one man died in a house fire in Sidney on Christmas Eve.

Around 3:20 p.m., police and the fire department were called to a house fire in the 9600-block of Third Street.

Sidney firefighters were able to put out the fire, and one resident of the home was able to escape with minor injuries, but a second man was found dead inside the house.

Fire investigators say the fire is not suspicious.

“Sidney RCMP would like to express our sincere condolences to the man’s family. Officers would also like to thank neighbours for their assistance provided on Christmas Eve. Emergency services were contacted quickly and aid was rendered to the occupant that exited the house,” said Const. Tim Cosgrove, media relations officer for Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

BC Coroners is now conducting the investigation into the death.
