Port McNeill Fire Rescue says there has been a fatality in an early morning structure fire.
Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the fire department, along with Hyde Creek and Port Hardy fire departments, responded to a fire at the Haida Way Motor Inn.
When crews arrived, flames could be seen from one side of the building, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The fire crews then searched the hotel to see if the flames had spread.
The cause is still under investigation.
