One man dead after 'serious' accident on Highway 18 near Duncan

One man is dead following what officials are calling a serious single-vehicle accident near Duncan on Highway 18.

Sahtlam Volunteer Fire Rescue, Lake Cowichan Fire, RCMP and the B.C. Ambulance Service were called to a rollover, entrapment and vehicle fire just before 11 a.m. Thursday near Paldi Road.

Mounties say there was only one person in the vehicle who died on the scene.

The B.C. Coroners Service says they are is in the early stages of an investigation involving a deceased man.

“This is a very serious incident,” said Sahtlam fire chief Randy Busch. “When we arrived RCMP and the B.C. Ambulance service was on the scene… we [then] quickly extinguished the flames.”

The investigation is ongoing and no other details are being released at this time.
