A residential home in Victoria has taken on significant damage, estimated to be $150,000 worth, following a fire on Monday night.

A residential home in Victoria has taken on significant damage following a fire on Monday night.

Victoria Fire Department said they received a report and immediately responded to a structure fire at 2635 Victor Street around 9:30 pm on May 4.

The response had fire crews arrive with three engines, an aerial ladder truck, a rescue truck and a battalion chief. Officials said the full response totalled 20 firefighters on site to fight the flames.

According to Victoria Fire, when they first arrived on scene, the fire had “fully involved” the house and flames were coming out the roof and rear of the building.

Victoria Fire said they took a multi-hose attack to both the front and the back of the building, which resulted in confining the fire to the main floor. Crews, however, said they had to remove the ceilings in order to properly extinguish the main floor blaze.

The house sustained significant damage, which Victoria Fire is estimating to be around $150,000 worth.

The two occupants of the residential home that were inside the house at the time of the fire managed to escape, however, authorities said they received minor burns.

BC Ambulance crews were able to treat the burns on site, according to the Victoria Fire press release. Both occupants were transported to Royal Jubilee Hospital for further assessment.

Victoria Fire said that the probable cause of the fire was from cooking with oil.
