More than a year after a Parksville mother’s disappearance Oceanside RCMP say they are desperate for clues to help find her.

Thirty-six-year-old Carmel Gilmour was last seen in person at Little Mountain Road in Parksville on Nov. 14 2017. Her van, a brown Chevrolet Venture, was seen parked at the Shady Rest in Qualicum Beach a day later on Nov. 15.

Police have followed up on numerous tips and leads but have learned very little to help them in their search.

“I feel that someone in the Oceanside Community knows what happened to Carmel and I encourage them to come forward and speak to Police,” said Sergeant Stephen Rose of the Oceanside RCMP in a statement.

“Carmel has left behind children that she loved and this is completely out of character for her.”

Gilmour’s friend Dale Bennett told CHEK News in December 2017 it was shocking to hear she was missing, and that the mom loves her two young children — who she’d recently lost custody of.

“She talked a lot about her kids,” said Bennett in 2017. “Very sad. Definitely, her kids need her back.”

Last year RCMP say they were not alerted until Nov. 21 about the suspicious vehicle though and when they recovered it, they found what appears to be all she owns inside including her identification.

Gilmour is a white woman standing at 5 foot six inches tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. She is 150 pounds and has a medium build.

Anyone with information regarding Gilmour is asked to call the Oceanside RCMP Detachment at 250-248-6111 and ask to speak to Constable Nardi.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
