It’s not just driving high that will get you a ticket. Having it open in your car will also do the trick.
Late Sunday night, Oak Bay Police issued their first cannabis-related ticket to a minor who was driving with an unsealed amount of cannabis in their vehicle.
The teenager has issued a $230 fine.
“Most concerning is he was likely going to drive away under influence had he not been checked by police,” Oak Bay Police wrote in a tweet.
We issued first cannabis ticket last nt, to a minor operating vehicle w/ cannabis in it: $230. Most concerning is he was likely going to drive away under influence had he not been checked by Police. Impaired driving kills people. Why can't we learn that? https://t.co/jM7aO0Z7F8 pic.twitter.com/WGbNuTzVXj

Recreational cannabis became legal on Oct. 17 and people can carry up to 30 grams of dried cannabis in public. It cannot be consumed in a vehicle.
That same day, two youths were fined $230 for cannabis possession near Belmont Secondary School in Langford. Police were conducting foot patrols in the area.
West Shore RCMP reminded people at the time that possessing or consuming cannabis is illegal under the age of 19.
Now, Oak Bay police are reminding the public that cannabis should be unopened and transported in a trunk.
