Oak Bay police are warning the public after a woman in her 60’s was injured by a herd of deer Monday in the area of Foul Bay and Crescent Roads.

Police say the resident heard a commotion in her backyard around 7 a.m. and opened a gate to let the animals out. She was knocked over by the herd and stomped on, causing minor injuries.

The incident was possibly a result of the deer perceiving her as a threat to the young fawn that had run out of the yard.

Oak Bay Police are reminding residents that the wild animals may forcefully and aggressively defend their young against perceived threats.

They say the best way to avoid human-wildlife conflicts with deer is to stay a safe distance away.

The woman did not require medical attention and wanted to share the incident to warn others.
