Oak Bay Police officer returned to duties after substantiated allegations of corruption, neglect of duty

An Oak Bay Police officer has returned to operational duties after being disciplined for five allegations including discreditable conduct and corrupt practice.

Allegations against Sgt. Davindar Dalep were brought to the police department’s attention in October 2020.

Oak Bay Police requested an investigation by the Office of the Public Complaints Commission, and seized Dalep’s weapons due to the nature of the allegations.

Dalep was assigned to administrative duties during the investigation.

Victoria Police conducted the investigation and substantiated the allegations against him which were misuse of intoxicants, discreditable conduct, corrupt practice, and two counts of neglect of duty.

Oak Bay Police has not said what the actions were that led to this, but in a tweet, the police chief said an annual report by the OPCC will provide information on the matter.

The Discipline Authority imposed sanctions on Dalep, including a reduction in rank from sergeant to first class constable, he is not permitted to compete for promotion for one year, and approval from the chief to is required compete for promotion.

Oak Bay Police say Dalep has returned to duties as a constable under the supervision of a sergeant.
