Oak Bay Police are investigating after a man was found dead in the Oak Bay Marina parking lot.

Police responded to a report of a man in medical distress in the parking lot on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Police said officers responded and tried CPR and other life-saving efforts on the man.

“Unfortunately their efforts and those of the ambulance medics and the fire department were not successful,” Oak Bay Police Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties said.

According to police, the man was in his mid-40s. The BC Coroners Service was called at 1:45 p.m. Detectives and the forensic identification unit were at the parking lot and the area was cordoned off. The body was removed at around 4 p.m.

Bernoties said at this time, police have no reason to suspect foul play but it still needs to be ruled out. If nothing suspicious is found, the investigation will be passed off to the BC Coroners Service.

The cause of death has also not been determined.

Anyone who was in the Oak Bay Marina parking lot area around 12 p.m. and saw anything suspicious is asked to call Oak Bay Police at (250) 592-2424.
