North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP respond to shots fired, arrest five men

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were contacted by Fisheries and Oceans Canada Conservation and Fisheries Protection officers at 4:30pm on Friday evening to report that shots had been fired while apprehending three individuals suspected of illegally harvesting clams, with two other suspects fleeing in the woods.  RCMP attended the scene and were able to extract the Fisheries officers and track down the suspects.

All five men involved were arrested and no one was injured during the incident, one man has been charged.  49-year-old Robert Guerin has been charged with Careless use of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. He was brought before Judicial Justice of the Peace and released on agreement to abide by specific conditions. Guerin will appear in Duncan Provincial Court on April 18th.
